Hybrid Sorghum Sudan Grass
Richardson Seeds, Ltd., originally Richardson Seed Farms, has a long legacy in the hybrid sorghum industry dating back to 1941 when C.G. Richardson purchased the land on which the headquarters is located today. Around 1945, the first wooden granaries were built to store grain. The same year a portable grain cleaner was purchased and the following year C.G. began cleaning and storing grain for the neighbors, charging them for cleaning and storage.
Expansion into the global market began in 1984 with the first sale of sorghum seed to Japan. Export sales continue to increase into a growing global market. In 1994, Larry became the third generation of Richardson’s to manage the family business; which continues to develop new products and technologies to meet the ever-changing needs of the sorghum producer.
Forages are produced in the surrounding Panhandle of Texas area near Vega. This area also offers highly fertile land and a good semi-arid climate, so that high quality, vigorous seed can be produced.
Richardson Seeds has a full line of Forage and Sorghum Sudangrass Hybrids. These hybrids are offered with various traits including Brown Mid-Rib (BMR), Photoperiod Sensitivity (PPS), and drought tolerance.
Our sorghum research and breeding team’s mission is to develop and provide cutting edge genetics of quality hybrid grain sorghums and hybrid forage sorghums. We work closely with industry leaders, customers, and seed organizations to develop new products that meet the demands of an ever-changing market. We use various performance and evaluation trials in an effort to confirm that our new products meet the needs for which they were developed and provide an economic return to our customers.
